Have a breakfast with its clear dawns, with its people, overlooking the Puerta de Alcalá or Botanical Garden, surrounded by books or DVDs, with a delicious chocolate or an antioxidant juice.

Just wake up, we'll take you to have breakfast.

With tradition

From 9.30 a.m. you can enjoy pastries and breads freshly made in one of the oldest places in the city, also famous for its cocido madrileño (stew with meat and chickpeas), Lhardy.

La Paca (Valverde 36) is another of those retro places where you can have a good breakfast, sweet or savoury. Surrounded by white iron columns, beams in the ceiling and sit on a comfortable chair you can enjoy a delicious cake or a tasty Spanish omelette.

Breakfast with views

Between the Paseo del Prado and the Botanical Garden, the Café Botánico (Ruiz Alarcón 27) serves good coffee and pastries or sandwiches and scrambled eggs, in a sophisticated atmosphere. It is a good option to start the day, before visiting the main museums of Madrid or strolling through the Retiro Park.

Next to the Puerta de Alcalá (Plaza de la Independencia 9) Harina prepares on the premises sourdough bread with tomatoes and olives, cakes, muffins, toasts, sandwiches, juices, cookies ... you can accompany everything with a good coffee.

Among books or films

Do you prefer books or movies? To moviegoers we suggest Diurno (San Marcos 37), a video gourmet, where you can delight your palate with muffins, apple pies, ham and cheese croissant, sandwiches and a varied selection of English teas.

To reading lovers we indicate Fuentetaja (San Bernardo 35) a café bistro with more than 7.000 references and delicious breakfasts.

From London to the United States, passing by Italy and Mexico

If you have a weakness for teas, you should go to Living in London, an authentic English tea room with products imported from England. Cadbury chocolate with cream, cherry, mango and pineapple juices, or roast beef and spinach sandwich are among the other proposals of this teahouse.

Another little corner of the United Kingdom in Madrid is Bristolbar (Almirante 20) where you can try an English breakfast.

Sweet muffins, cookies, fried or scrambled eggs with bacon, American sausage, grilled tomato and hash brown, pancakes with maple syrup, American coffee ... we have moved to an American diner of the fifties, called Tommy Mel’s (Pedro Teixeira 8).

If you want to drink a real espresso with Italian pastry, you should go to Grazie Mille (Mayor 31), and if you want to try a real cappuccino, too.

Another good choice for having breakfast in Italian style is Italiana Madrid at Corredera Baja San Pablo, besides you can buy here books published in that country.

At Sabor a mí, located in the Chueca neighbourhood, you can eat Mexican breakfast: huevos rancheros (fried eggs served upon lightly fried corn tortillas topped with tomato-chili sauce), pastries, seasonal fruit and vegetables juices, beans, corn tortillas and chips tortillas with guacamole. Everything is accompanied by bolero rhythm and Cantinflas’ movies.

Out of Madrid

Five minutes from Plaza Castilla, in the exclusive area of La Moraleja, at Café Pino (Estafeta 2), the smell of homemade pastries mixes with the bread and muffin freshly made one. For dressing your bread you can choose between good olive oil and Iberian ham and for drinking you can take orange juice, chocolate with churros (strip of fried dough) or wide variety of coffees and teas. If you prefer to start the day with abundant dishes you can choose Spanish omelette, homemade empanada (stuffed bread or pastry baked or fried) or ham and eggs.

If you prefer to have breakfast in hotel

If you’re looking for a hotel that takes care of every detail of which is often considered the most important meal of the day we recommend staying at the boutique design hotel Abalú, 19th Pez Street near Gran Via.

Besides the classical "Continental" (orange juice, different types of bread, exotic fruit marmalades and gourmet coffees from the best plantations in the world), you can order à la carte breakfast, warning between 24 and 48 hours earlier.

You can order energetic, bio, castizos (coffee with milk, fritter and churros freshly made) or passionate breakfasts (cranberry juice, red or black tea with passion fruit, cereal with red berries, toast and choice of strawberry marmalade, blueberry and blackberries). Choose yours!

NH hotels have also joined the fashion of pampering customer from breakfast and have implemented in all its establishments the concept of "NH Antiox”. It consists of proposals healthy and tasty as fruit jellies 100% natural, anti-oxidant juices, organic yogurts combined with fruits, muesli or goji berries (fruit originating in the Himalayas and renowned for its anti aging and anti stress properties), flavoured milk, Spanish omelette prepared in any style with omega -3, whole-grain croissants, fresh butter. That’s a whole range of flavours in which line and palate come to agreement.

An organic breakfast

Ecocentro (Esquilache, 2-12) offers a great buffet to compose your own organic breakfast. Mascarpone and pumpkin pies, grilled seitan sandwich, fresh fruit, fair trade coffees and juices are among the products that you can choose.

With children

For having an organic breakfast with your children we highlight Baby Deli (Lagasca 54), a coffee shop specialized in organic agricultural products, a toy shop with educational articles that houses workshops, some of them taught in English, and a very suitable interior garden for the summer afternoons.

For the sweet tooth

Cacao Sampaka is a chocolate design candies store, baking books, catering junk and also a coffee shop that from 10 a.m. offers chocolate in all its forms: inside a cup, shaped brownie with nuts and whipped cream, or under the appearance of white mousse topped with coffee. Impossible to resist!

The pain au chocolate or Belgian chocolate cream by Le Pain Quotidien is another ingredient that must be a constant feature in a sweet breakfast. The purpose of losing weight for the summer can wait one more day...
