WINE TOURISIM

We understand wine tourism as the type of tourism around the culture and professions of wine and vines, being related to the culinary and cultural tourism.

For the cultivation of the vine, it is necessary to perform some complex tasks, performed by vintners, agronomists, collectors, winemakers and coopers, thanks to their efforts we are able to enjoy this delicacy.

It is increasingly common the visits to the wineries within our Region. The visit involves knowing the architecture our towns and the process of making wine and finally a nice tasting.

Today you can visit around twenty wineries and vineyards spread throughout the region. Through these wineries, the region of Madrid has built a route in a collective project that creates a complete open community for everyone around the wine culture.

If you want to complete your experience, around the cultural wine itineraries you will find a whole culinary and leisure offer. These activites will allow for a different outlook of the wine world, the wine elaboration process, the professions and the people who have adapted their lifestyle around this sensory pleasure.

Thanks to de design of six routes you will find out a different perspective of Madrid, taking part 20 of the 44 winneries of the D.O. "Wines of Madrid".

The route The Arrival of Roman Empire reminisces a travel to the roman past of Spain towars year 1 BC, moment where starts viticulture. Startin in the old Complutum (Alcalá de Henares), the route will go through towns like Campo Real, Valdilecha, Carabaña, Tielmes, Perales de Tajuña or Titulcia.

The route The Valley of Churches and the Cistercian Legacy goes through the San Martín de Valdeiglesias sub-area visiting some of the places where the Cistercian Order developed wine culture. The route will allow you to find out some of the most important monuments of Pelayos de la Presa, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Cadalso de los Vidrios, Cenicientos and Villa del Prado.

The route The River Tajo and The Wines of The Order of Saint James goes through the lands donated by Alfonso VIII to the Order of Saint Jamesthanks to services during the Christian Reconquest, when the Order make rise the Vine. The route include Villarejo de Salvanés, Fuentidueña de Tajo, Belmonte de Tajo, Colmenar de Oreja and Oreja Castle.

The route Path of Kings reproduces the travels of Austrians and Bourbons between Navalcarnero, El Álamo and Aranjuez.

The Route Scenes and Chronicles by Francisco de Goya remember some places that inspires Goya expressing the culture of wine. The route goes through the Jarama Plain, Villaconejos, Chinchón and Valdelaguna.

The route The Age of the Railway describes the hopes of the wine industry when the railway was deployed in Madrid between 50s and 80s of the 19th century. The route begins in the city of Madrid and goes through some of the main wine locatios of Arganda sub-area: Arganda del Rey, Morata de Tajuña, Perales de Tajuña, Tielmes, Carabaña, Orusco de Tajuña, Villar del Olmo, Nuevo Baztán and Pozuelo del Rey.
