Escapada a… Robregordo

Our different getaways bring you closer every week to one of the municipalities of the Region of Madrid. On this occasion we encourage you to get to know a charming village located in the heart of the Sierra Norte: Robregordo. Not only will you get to know up close the beauty of its streets, but thanks to its privileged location you will be able to explore the area through its paths and routes.

This town in Madrid, located in the Middle Valley of Lozoya, has always been linked to Somosierra and its port, and was a strategic point between the north and south of Spain. The origin of Robregordo seems to be linked to the time of the Reconquest, and it is believed that initially was a sale where travellers refuelled where later emerged inns, inns and posts for the cavalries.

The beauty of the town lies not only in different points of interest such as the Parish Church of Santa Catalina, the old forge, the livestock crush, the 'corral de Concejo' or the Town Hall, but also in its streets, where you will find houses and traditional buildings characteristic of the Sierra Norte, with materials from the area.

Very close to the town centre is the 'El Plantio Recreational Area', an open-air area, meeting point for families who wish to spend a day in contact with nature. And it is precisely its natural environment that is one of the treasures of the town, since a large part of the area is protected, being included within the Special Conservation Area (ZEC) 'Cuenca del río Lozoya y Sierra Norte', which is part of the 'Red Natura 2000'.

Also, near El Plantío, we find the 'Dehesa Boyal de Robregordo', one of the areas of greatest natural value in the whole municipality, which encompasses an extensive area of high and medium mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama and its surroundings. There you will find a great variety of flora and fauna, in many cases unique species.

As it could not be otherwise, hiking enthusiasts will find here a wide range of hiking trails and signposted livestock trails, which will lead them to discover unique places, where they can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Somosierra and the peaks of the Sierra de Ayllon.

Wear comfortable shoes and if you dare, take your bicycle to explore the paths of 'La dehesa de Robregordo'; 'Robregordo y su cuerda' of greater difficulty than the previous one; and 'Robregordo a La Acebeda' of low difficulty.

Discover Robregordo, the rural essence of the Sierra Norte!
