Sierra Oeste de Madrid, from castles to picturesque villages

Discover the Sierra Oeste de Madrid, an ideal option for a cultural and/or nature experience less than an hour from the capital.

The Sierra Oeste has countless attractions to discover, such as medieval castles like La Coracera in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, monasteries like Santa María de Valdeiglesias in Pelayos de la Presa. You can also find palaces, such as that of Villena in Cadalso de los Vidrios, whose gardens can be visited.

It is also possible to admire authentic jewels of sacred art, such as the Church of the Apostle Santiago in Villa del Prado, or the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady of Robledo de Chavela.

In addition to a cultural experience, you can walk among olive trees and ancient vineyards, practice adventure sports in the Pantano de San Juan or observe birds of prey in danger of extinction.

If you like hiking and contemplating almost virgin landscapes, we recommend the routes of Zarzalejo and Valdemaqueda, as well as the impressive Castañar de Rozas de Puerto Real. The latter is the most extensive chestnut forest in the Region of Madrid, and in the fall it transforms into a wonderful symphony of colors and natural beauty that you will not want to miss.

Finally, we must not forget its rich and varied gastronomy, washed down with some of the best wines of the Denomination of Origin Wines of Madrid.
