May 2nd Festivities poster

May 2nd is the day of the region of Madrid and, on the occasion of such an important date, different celebrations for all tastes and ages will take place in the capital and in many of its municipalities.

This spring date will host theatre, puppets, dance, music, cinema and many more activities. One of the great proposals is ¨Juntos por el Flamenco¨ (Together for Flamenco). Within the programme of this cycle, a wide variety of shows will be presented by renowned artists of the Spanish flamenco scene. With a careful staging and the freshness and spontaneity that characterise this genre, the magic of singing, dancing and guitar playing will merge on the different stages in a journey through the main flamenco palos, which will involve the spectator in a very special and emotional experience.

In addition, for film buffs, on 2 May our region wants to commemorate the centenary of the Spanish film director Luis García Berlanga. The best-known Valencian filmmaker based in Madrid returns to the screens thanks to this great tribute, which will screen everything from documentaries about his life to well-known films such as ¨El Verdugo¨ and ¨Patrimonio Nacional¨. All screenings are free entry until full capacity is reached and will feature the participation of different professionals and film experts who will talk about the filmography of Berlangui, not to be missed!

A large number of museums and temporary exhibitions have also wanted to join in the celebration of the Region of Madrid Day: the Arte Joven hall, the Cervantes Birthplace Museum in Alcalá de Henares or the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts are some of the spaces where art, culture and literature will give full prominence to the Region of Madrid.

Strengthening its commitment to the young and emerging talent of our country, the Region of Madrid comes with a proposal of concerts in double session at aperitif time that will bring live music to some of the most beautiful and monumental squares of the region. In the ¨Sesión Vermú¨ spring edition, 104 concerts will be performed by 53 bands in 17 Madrid municipalities, and admission is completely free!

Check out all the details of this extensive programme, choose your date, don't miss it!
