The Madrid Book Fair kicks off at its usual location in the Retiro Park. This is the second consecutive year that the fair is held in early autumn instead of its traditional summer dates, this year celebrating its 80th anniversary, from September 10 to 26. One of the region's most anticipated major cultural events.
The festival of literature will once again dress the booths of El Retiro. The 80th edition of the fair has Colombia as Guest of Honor this year. It will be a unique occasion to celebrate the country's literary culture, with authors such as Alejandro Obregón, Manuel Zapata Olivella, Enrique Grau, Edgar Negret, Manuel Humberto Rodríguez, Nereo López, Lucy Tejada and Cecilia Porras.
The 17 days will be the scene of more than 40 activities that will provide a panoramic view of the country's literary scene, with lectures by some of its authors in various genres, visual arts and cinema, music and gastronomy, as well as activities for children and young people.
Since 1933 the Book Fair has been adorning the streets of Madrid with the best literary promotion. It received its current name in 1982 and since then the annual event has been institutionalized as a flagship event of the city. The Fair has received the National Award for the Promotion of Reading, and the Benito Pérez Galdós Award for the International Projection of the City of Madrid, granted by the City Council.
The event, in addition to being a classic meeting point for the curious, regular readers, general and specialized bookstores, publishers, exhibitors and distributors, also aims to be a meeting point for entities and institutions whose activity is the sale, distribution or publishing of books. Thus, cultural sponsorship aims to bring together both dimensions of the literary phenomenon: the professional and the amateur.
Renowned authors will be present at the usual events to sign copies and chat with fans. You can consult here a calendar of signings so that you don't miss your favorite writers.
You can also consult a detailed schedule of activities that will take place during those days on the occasion of the event.
