Once again, the summer brings us San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and The Virgin of La Paloma festivities in the neighbourhoods of Madrid centre: Cascorro, Lavapies and La Latina. You can join the hundreds of people, tourists, children and adults enjoying these street festivities with live concerts, processions and parades, free products tasting, popular music bands, and street festivals in the first two weeks of August in some of the most popular districts of Madrid. The Virgin of La Paloma festivities are here and we can have a drink and dance in the multiples places which put outdoors bars and music in the streets. You can also see some traditional characters like “Chulapos” (people in traditional Madrilenian costume with a black and white checked cap and a vest for him and a white headscarf with a red carnation and a polka-dot dress and a manila shawl for her). The main points of the festivities are Plaza de la Paja and Plaza de la Cebada, and Paloma and Toledo streets. These festivities start with fireworks and an opening speech at the Plaza Mayor and end 15 August. In the meantime, there are a whole program of events and activities for everyone, for example, you can learn how to dance the traditional “chotis” or dance disco and other kind of music in the streets and bars or enjoy the concerts in Las Vistillas. The fun and party atmosphere is everywhere, and if you want to show-off (like a good Madrilène) you have also some contests to participate: children costumes, traditional costumes, tortilla de patata (Spanish omelette), poetry, pasodoble (Spanish ballroom dance), etc. Are you in the mood for a contest? We are waiting for you!! |
