If the Night of Museums was not enough for you and you want to see more art, more exhibitions, more museums and more Madrid, here you have another chance: ON 18TH May we celebrate the International Museum Day. For this special day, we have new activities and proposals.

Reina Sofía Museum has prepared a complete programme for this day. You will learn how to restore and preserve modern and contemporary art. You will see the restoration process of Woman in Blue by Pablo Picasso. Tours are free and will be at 11.00 a.m, at 13.00 p.m and at 17.00 p.m. You can book it here: actividadespublicas2@museoreinasofia.es.

You can also attend the representation Entom, urban and contemporary dance (at 12 and 12.30 pm. in the Patio Nouvel). This day it will the opening of the exhibition of James Castle’s work and on the Museum’s terrace will be installed Antoni Mirandas’s work: Wheat & Steak / Tri-Uni-Corn /. If you are interesting in knowing the Reina Sofía’s colletions you will be able to do free guided tours of the museum and attend themed itineraries.

At the Prado Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, you can also try a free walk through the permanent and temporary collections.

An unusual activity is proposed to us by the Museum of Anthropology where they convene us to tell on a video how was our first experience in a museum. You can go to this museum on the 18th May from 10 am. to 14 pm. or 17 pm. to 19 pm. to record our experience.

In the Letras neighbourhood we find the Lope de Vega’s House Museum where we are going to enjoy with the plays by Lope and Cervantes, a funny way to approach the figures of the most representative writers of the Golden Age Literature.

The Art centers and museums in the Community of Madrid also want to join the celebration of the International Museum Day. One of the refrence places in contemporary art CAM2M-Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo located in Móstoles, has prepared two different tours in order we to know the whole collections. The special hours are from 12.00 to 01.30 p.m. and from 06.00 to 07.30 p.m. Registration is free and can be done in this e-mail: ca2m@madrid.org.

In Alcalá de Henares, Cervantes is the protagonist of this Museum Day. In his Birthplace House, now a Museum, we can see the show The Magic of the Museum at 21.00 by Manuel Vera. The show consists of magic tricks from the Golden Age, such as rings, the cards up or the Talking Head that Cervantes himself describes in a chapter of Don Quixote. For reservations: museocasanataldecervantes@madrid.org.

These are just some of the activities that we wanted to highlight the wide range of programs that exist and which can be viewed here. Now we only have to wish you a happy Museum Day in Madrid.
