- Description: Located at the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Atocha, the Pantheon was built to house the illustrious men’s remains such as Ríos Rosas, Cánovas del Castillo or Canalejas. The tombs sculpted by Mariano Benilliure and Agustín Querol are of particular note. The architect Fernando Arbós designed the central group, inspired by the Byzantine tradition. The building work lasted from 1891 until 1911. The Royal Trust conserves, among other treasures, a Romanesque carving of the Virgin Mary. The image was originally on display in the Convent of the Dominican Friars, where it remained until the Disentailment of 1835.
