That’s because Madrid is original and has always wide and varied cultural offerings. Here we are. Whatever you want and whatever you need in every moment you’ve got it in Madrid.

Do you feel like dancing? Perhaps you want to go to Shakira’s concert or you prefer dancing like if you were in a Bollywood film. Is your life like a theatre play? Then choose one of the pieces that are represented now in the halls and Theaters of the Community. Do you want to laugh? Do you want to cry? Both of them?

For all these reasons and for many more we have chosen Madrid like our destiny and we have chosen a weekend: the one that goes from the 3rd to the 5th of June 2011. During three days you are going to realize all the things you can do in our region. It is going to be amazing!

Friday, 3rd of June 2011

The star of this evening is Shakira. She will not lie with her hips and she will give the most of it in the concert at Vicente Calderón Stadium. But before this show we must get some energy. The best way to do it is having lunch or dinner at any of the Japanese restaurants that we have in Madrid. The Japanese cuisine is varied, tasty and light so it is perfect to have some shushi or makis before the party starts.

At 10.00 p.m. will be the music and dance explosion so before the show begins you can relax having a walk around Madrid Río (Madrid River), a natural space for all the madrileños and visitors.

If you enjoy watching a good film at the cinema then your place it is the German Film Festival which takes place in Palafox cinema until 4th June. By Metro Bilbao, next to Malasaña, you can choose to have a drink before going to the movie or afterwards. The dining and nightlife in the area is infinite. If you'd like to continue with the Germanic theme and make a real immersion you can go to the brewery L'Europe (Cardenal Cisneros 19) or to Kloster (on the same street, but number 25), where you can quench your thirst with a genuine Bavarian weissbier with a bratwurst and potatoes.

Saturday, 4th of June 2011

We can dedicate it to cultivate ourselves: first of all with the best Literature. The Retiro Park hosts the 70th edition of the Book Fair. Relax in this park that it is quite a green lung for the city, stroll along its paths, enjoy the greenery and take a look at the latest bestsellers. Even your favourite author may dedicate you a book. Around Retiro Park we will find many restaurants after a hectic morning between letters. The Basque cuisine by Tavern Arzábal is an option and you have also the European style by Horcher. Here we will be able to grow our palate after having grown our spirit.

From the Salamanca district we move to one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Madrid: Lavapiés, an area that during this weekend turns into a Bollywood set. Lavapiés becomes India, India becomes Lavapiés. Try the traditional food of this Asian country, its sweets and drinks, try on a colourful sari and take it home and, of course, learn the basic steps of dancing as if you were the star in a Bollywood movie. This traditional neighbourhood of Madrid is transformed completely during this weekend. We will travel to another culture only by taking the subway and getting off at Lavapiés.

If you want keep on travelling with going out Madrid you can do it. From Rajasthan, one of the largest states in India, we will begin a exciting journey till we get to Granada. This is Drom, a show that will take us to a trip for a variety of cultures in the world through their dances and music. Persia, Turkey, Egypt, Central Europe ... until you reach a cave in Albaicín, in Granada.

If you prefer a Saturday with classical taste, then your place is Plaza de Oriente. The Teatro Real has prepared a special evening. You will be able to listen to The Marriage of Fígaro, one of the most famous operas composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It will be installed a giant screen in the gardens opposite the Royal Palace to enjoy this piece of a different way.

Before getting into this wonderful piece of music, you can visit inside the Royal Palace an interesting exhibition about The Polish Golden Age, where we will be able to admire for the first time in Spain one of the most famous paintings by Leonardo Da Vinci: Lady with an Ermine, a real jewel from the Italian Renaissance, that comes straight from Poland to Madrid.

Sunday, 5th of June 2011

The weekend finishes on Sunday but the leisure in Madrid doesn’t stop. We remind you that this is the last chance of enjoying one of the plays from the theatre Fall Festival in Spring. Perhaps you want to go to see the Masquerade Ball at Teatros del Canal or see the latest trends in flamenco by Israel Galván at las Naves del Español Theatre.

Another suggestion that we make from Turismo Madrid to finish the weekend off right and without falling into Monday's syndrome it is to visit the Cirque du Soleil tent located in Puerta del Ángel and be surprised and amazed by the magic of their last show: Corteo. Never before a clown's funeral has been so funny and tender as the one that you can see from this group of artists in Madrid.

Also on Sunday the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium hosts the veteran match who measures Real Madrid against Bayern München. The date is from 07:30 pm. m and tickets are now on sale. All the gates will go to the African project for the development of sports partner schools that Real Madrid Foundation has on this continent. A unique opportunity to see ball legendary stars as Butragueño Chendo, Buyo, Zinedine Zidane, Santillana, Redondo or Suker, by the white team, or Elber, Makaay, or Sagnol Rummenigge, in the Bayern side.

We remind you that if you want to know more about the Real Madrid and you want to know the Stadium you can do a Tour through the Stadium where you will be able to visit the principle halls inside this ‘white cathedral’.

For all these reasons and many more, you will have seen that to spend a weekend in Madrid is not anything. Because every day, there is new proposals and all are imbued with character and personality, a reflection of what this community is. We wait for you: any weekend in the year or any day of the week. Come to Madrid.
